You know the feeling. It’s Saturday afternoon – you want to hang out with friends, or get a few couples together and hang out (I wouldn’t know anything about the couple part, but you catch my drift), but no one can decide on what to do.

Here are 4 of my favorite Atlanta activities for a fun group outing to get you out of the rut – and for a bonus, that won’t break the bank!

Take a Brewery Tour

With what seems like scores of breweries open around the city, as well as more than 10 slated to open this year, there are some great options to get your day-drink on. My two current favorites worth checking out are Orpheus and Urban Tree Cidery.

No, these aren’t beers that taste like someone stuck War Heads in them (90’s throwback, anyone?) – think the crispness of a cider with a pop of tartness, but still sophisticated enough for die-hard beer lovers to enjoy.

Orpheus has a small, simple tasting room with a brewery tour, as well as a stellar multi-level patio that overlooks the north slice of Piedmont Park. Tour tickets are $12, which include an actual tour of the brewery and 7 5 oz beer samples.

Urban Tree is a new cidery that opened in February on the West side, just a stone’s throw from the Westside Provisions District. As a huge cider fan, I was pumped about Urban Tree opening – and it didn’t disappoint.

For only $10, you can get a cider flight to sample the different offerings. Unique to Urban Tree, they also have cider-based cocktails, as well as beer from other local breweries to really cater to everyone’s tastes.

The best part about both of these breweries – dogs are welcome, and you can bring your own food!

See an Improv Show

Improv is a time-honored Atlanta tradition, and one of my favorite spots to watch a show is Village Theater in Old Fourth Ward.

This venue has everything you could want – free parking, cheap drinks, and hilarious comedians. Village Theater hosts shows regular shows every Thursday-Sunday, with favorites like a once-a-month underwear show (comedians in their underwear, free entry for those also in their underwear). I’m always reminded of Whose Line Is It Anyway when I go to Village Theater, as they plan a ton of fun improv games – so you know the comedy is top notch!

Tickets for each show are typically $10 and can be bought at the door – purchase yours in advance, as they’ll often sell out for Friday and Saturday night shows.

Do a Room Escape Challenge

Room escapes are popping up as a hot new group activity – you’re locked in a room, given a challenge and some clues, and forced to make your way out in an hour.

I recently tried out a room escape challenge in Atlanta, and was surprised at how much fun it was. A few coworkers and I went to the new Room Escape Atlanta location in Edgewood for their Snowmaggedon challenge. For those of you who remember the great Atlanta “snowstorm” of 2014, this challenge is modeled off of that – so it’s particularly fun for ATLiens.

I won’t give away any secrets, but the room was definitely a huge challenge. We had to find clues hidden in the snowstorm, sort them out and keep track of them (way harder than we thought), and then decipher them to escape the room. The room was a combination of freaking out to find the clues, laughing when we completely misinterpreted what a clue meant, and then screaming with joy when we escaped with just a few seconds left.

I had no clue what to expect from the room – but it ended up being a blast. My heart was pounding the whole time, kind of like a silly, frantic adrenaline rush.

If you’d like to experience it for yourself, the Snowmaggedon room at Room Escape Atlanta in Edgewood is open daily, with times at 3:45, 5:30, 7:15, and 9. Up to 6 can enter the room; allocate about 1.5 hours for the activity total. Room Escape also has Donor Room and Zombie escapes if you want to try something different. You can book your time here!

Bargain Hunt at Scott Antique Market

Scott Antique Market is one of my favorite lazy weekend activities in Atlanta. This massive indoor & outdoor market is the perfect place to find anything you could ever need – it’s the type of place that you could spend an entire Saturday sifting through. With over 366,000 square feet of space, there is no shortage of treasures you can find at Scott.

Scott is known for their extensive amount of furniture, from the vintage to the upscale; expect to also find vendors peddling everything from clothing, to artwork, to discounted designer handbags, to pet supplies…the list is endless!

The market is a great place to amble around with a significant other or bargain-hunt with girlfriends – you’ll also need to check it out if you’re moving for new finds for your apartment or house!

Scott is hosted in Atlanta the third weekend of every month (that Thursday through Sunday), so make sure to mark your calendars! It’s located at the Atlanta Expo Center about 3 miles east of the Atlanta airport. Parking is free, with $5 entry into the market.
